Weaam El Masry is an Egyptian Cairo-Dubai based multi-award winning visual artist. She holds a PH.D. in media art from the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University. She is currently working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Art & Design at the British University in Egypt. She is a curator and co-founder of Easel and Camera contemporary art gallery located in Egypt.
She is also a painter who at times moves to photography, animation and installation. Her work has been exhibited at galleries, festivals, Art Fairs, Biennales and museums locally and internationally notably; The Norval Sovereign African Art Prize 2024, the 30 shortlisted artworks will be on display at The Norval Foundation Art Museum, Cape Town, South Africa (14 February-15 May 2024), The AIR MUSEUM (30.7.-22.10.2023) Germany, “Nexus” at Verpackerei Gallery in Görisried, Germany (2023), Venice Biennale 59th. 2022, “Egypt International Art Fair” (2020), “The Sixth Silk Road International Arts Festival”, Shaanxi Provincial Museum of Fine Arts – China (2019), Beirut Art Fair (2018), the Biblical Book and Book-Object Biennale, 1st edition, National Literary Museum - Bucharest, Romania (2018), the 10th Luxor International Painting Symposium, The Egyptian Ministry Of Culture (Through Its Cultural Development Fund), Luxor, Egypt (2017), the Florence Biennale, Italy (2015), 5th Beijing International Art Biennale, China (2012), One Minute Film & Video Festival in Aarau, Switzerland (2008), The Egyptian Museum of Contemporary Art, and many group and solo exhibitions in Egypt and abroad.
With over than 25 awards and scholarships from different institutions in Egypt and abroad; for example but not limited to; The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists (2012), the Culture Resource Award for Artistic Production for Young Arab Artists & Writers - the Arab region (2006), D.A.A.D, Germany (2005-2006), Pro-Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council (2010), Alexandria library, Egypt (2005), Kulturamt Düsseldorf, Germany (2002) and over 75 exhibitions under her belt.
El Masry’s works are in private and public Collections; notably Bibliotheca Alexandrina; The Museum of Egyptian Modern Art, National Literary Museum Bucharest, Romania and private collections in Egypt, Germany, USA, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Spain.
Born in 1979 in Kuwait, Mohammad Bassuony is a visual artist who works and lives in Kafr El Sheikh, Egypt. He earned several academic certificates such as a Diploma in Art Education, Painting Department, Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University, and a Diploma in Refurbishing Monuments, Faculty of Archeology, Cairo University in 2004.
Bassuony’s artworks are focused on the human body, and discuss issues related to identity, gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity. characters in his work constantly modify their bodies, hair, and clothing either to fit with or to rebel against social conventions. His technique of overlapping or contrasting color combinations to create compatible or contradictory formations
that represents a parallel message, and his understanding of color combinations has a great influence in interpreting his work.
Bassuony participated in many international biennials around the world such as the 5th Beijing International Art Biennale, China in 2012, Belt and Road A Beautiful Hexian County, and Hexion, China in 2019. He won several international and domestic awards, most notably: Second prize in painting from the International Salon of Alexandria Atelier in 2007, a Certificate of Appreciation from the first special exhibition at Gezira Arts Center in 2006.
Ali Salem is a multi-talented painter and sculptor; Ali Salem was born in Egypt in 1945. He graduated with a BFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, the University of Alexandria in 1968. Salem developed his technique work in ceramics and bronze with complete devotion, his specialization in monumental sculptures has made him one of the most notable sculptors, Salem has more than 20 years in teaching plastic arts in France.
His style in painting is strongly influenced by his roots and the rich Islamic art and culture; Today Salem is dividing his time between Thailand where his bronzes are cast and the south of France, where he founded an art school in Montpellier-France, and another school in Thailand.
Ali Salem has been present firmly in the art scene, in Europe especially France, and the Middle East and Asia since 1972, through his well-established long-time career, Salem exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions around the world, Salem earned his reputable reputation as monumental sculptor, his work was sold in auction houses, and acquired by institutions and private collections.
